Ten on it: Lizzo’s still killing it, Kojey’s about to be our king

I hold my hands up. Working remotely on a train with shaky wi-fi last Friday was not conducive to content creation, and I let Five on it slip. But no song will be left behind, because there was some beautiful music out last week that deserves your time and attention too.
And so here is a bumper edition – for the first, and hopefully last time, this is ten on it.
Lizzo ft. Missy Elliott – ‘Tempo’
The visuals have finally landed for one of the most heaven-sent collabs of the year: Lizzo and Missy. Sequins, cowboy hats, Missy popping out of the car hood, the flute – we love to see it.
Burna Boy – African Giant
A huge, gamechanging album here from the Afrobeats king which looks set to mark his crossover into the US mainstream. Ranging from sweet pop tunes to rich political insightfulness, with features from the likes of YG, Damian Marley and Jorja Smith, this is a special consideration of his mother’s words that, “every black person should please remember that you were Africans before you became anything else.” [Listen to the album]
Kojey Radical – ‘2020’
This is incredible, Kojey’s about to be the king of UK music. That’s it, that’s the tweet.
Kelady – ‘Papaya’
Taking aim at Papaya skin-whitening soap, this great track from the emerging American-Filipina artist delivers bars that flit between soft-spoken raps and playful, sing-song vocals over a warm, enticing beat.
Mabel – High Expectations
“High expectations” is probably an apt name for Mabel’s debut – she’s been the UK’s pop princess for the past year, so her first ever album was bound to have plenty of hype. Thankfully it’s a sweet, catchy album full of summer heat that would be perfect in a montage of getting ready for a night out (the Love Island hangover is real and has infected my ability to describe things in a normal way). [Listen to the album]
Crave Moore – ‘Buu’
Deliciously soft and woozy with twangy instrumentals and mesmerizingly fluid bars, this new track from the South Londoner is perfect for a balmy summer evening.
min.a – Round 2 EP
This is the new EP from current NYU Tisch student min.a, consisting of two self-produced tracks. Both are full of polished, lush soundscapes topped with lithe, beguiling pitch-bending vocals, but while ‘Happy’ is light and airy, ‘Cruel’ is a little more intense, and abrasive. Either way, this is sparkly, immersive and beautifully off-kilter pop, with the refrain of “Don’t I get to be happy?” on ‘Happy’ serving as a huge mood.
Cassie Rytz ft. T Roadz – ‘5 Hours of Doom’
This latest track has us hyped for Cassie Rytz’s debut full-length tape dropping at the end of the month. A bouncy beat, assured delivery and a feature from 13-year-old T Roadz, this track is a blaze of excitement.
Benjiflow – ‘Can’t Lose’ (Live)
This live video from the North Londoner everyone is talking about shows us why sometimes it’s right to believe the hype: full of slinky energy and vibes, the multi-instrumentalist is a whole lot of fun.
Snoh Aalegra – ‘Situationship’
Ahead of her second album, this new track from the Swedish-Iranian artist bubbles dreamily with glimmering beats and smoky smooth vocals.
